Forest Seed stand in action

Date Added: 04 March 2021 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1975 Picture No: 5067

The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.

No clues to location or date but appears to be a Scots pine seed stand planted on a very favourable site. The bags fixed to the trees cover the female cones and male flowers preventing casual pollination. All the trees on the site are likely to be from high quality plus parents and experiments were obviously under way to engineer special controlled crosses between particular parent trees to achieve more improvements in tree quality and growth rates.

Any ideas of location? The five people are too far away to identify.
