Mounted Tine Ploughing in unknown location
The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.
Two what could be International BTD8 tractors (but far from certain) with mounted single furrow tine ploughs working on undulating moorland. Short steep snaps made it difficult for trailed ploughs to work efficiently and the more nimble and manoeuvrable mounted tine plough and tractor combination were used very extensively on such variable terrain. They could plough a decent furrow on deep peat but risked bogging due to the very heavy tail weight.
The tractor registration numbers are ULM258F and NHV668E. Can anyone recall these numbers or by chance recognise the drivers? ULM258F is seen in FM No. 4650 and 1117.
