The photographs are courtesy of Myra Younie, Clerical/Admin Officer at Laigh of Moray Forest and Moray Forest District, who maintained forestry photograph albums over several years.
Standing outside the Culloden Academy training location are:
Mairi Campbell from Mull Forest District
Cathy Fraser from Dornoch Forest District
Mairi Campbell at one time lived in Dunoon (1964/65) with her police constable husband George. Unsure of the timing but certainly in the 1970s they had moved to Mull and George joined the ambulance service and Mairi the Forestry Commission as a clerk in the Mull Forest office and subsequently the Mull Forest District Office. Mull Forest District was amalgamated with Lorne Forest District in 1992 and Mari may have worked on in the Mull office for a period. Any details of Mairi’s forestry career would be very welcome.
Cathie Fraser, a resident of Bonar Bridge, had a long service record with the Forestry Commission. It is believed she first worked in Balblair Forest office located beside the Forester’s House (Fearn or Fern House) in Bonar Bridge. This may well have been the time when Balblair was already amalgamated with Craigs Forest.
Following the formation of the Chief Forester unit of Shin Forest which combined initially with Oykel Forest in 1970 and then Balblair in 1971 she transferred to working in the new Shin office complex at Lairg. From then until the formation of the Forest Districts in 1983/84 she worked with Stella Anderson as the two person clerical team for Shin Forest. Cathie then transferred to the Caithness and Sutherland wide Dornoch District Forest office located at the Dornoch Nursery. Can anyone confirm when she retired?
