I have one of these fire horns which I removed from a dilapidated shed near Whitehaugh in 1988. The were the remains of half a dozen sets which were all rusted and broken (due to leather parts having rotted away) apart from one set. The local forester's name is written on the side; a Mr Duguid. The reason for mentioning this is that they are of an identical design so I'm pretty sure they weren't home made or if they were they must have been made to a template design. My set sit beside my desk at work today so I can wake everyone up if they drift off :)
