Culbin Forest Story - 1955 Film by Forestry Commission
Surprises still come along and one such was to be told today by Robbie Coleman that this film is now on You Tube. This writer last saw the film in about 1966 and had been searching the National Library of Scotland – Moving Images Archive for a copy.
It looks as though it has been loaded by Forestry and Land Scotland staff and is pretty grainy and difficult to see detail of machines and workers faces. It would be worthwhile considering passing to National Library of Scotland for professional digitising and placement on their archive.
There are six segments all in different links but they do conveniently link from one to the other and the viewer can see the whole story through from the bare shifting sands to the eventual thatching operations, successful planting and sand stabilisation and the felling of the mature trees grown there.
I note that the photography was carried out by I A Anderson who was the Forestry Commission’s principal photographer, voice over by J Urquhart and the film credited as made by the Forestry Commission.

Since entering these details Wilma Harper has brought to my attention an entry in Scottish Forestry Vol 7/3 from 1953 indicating that Frank Oliver was showing the Culbin Film at The British Association for Advancement of Science event. This is two years previous to the date indicated above. See the PDF below for the information.
