Building of Glentrool Forestry Village 1954

Date Added: 21 September 2020 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1954 Picture No: 4859

The images are from Joan Park who was born in the village and show the initial construction of the first 47 houses which were completed in 1954. The records show that the School and school teacher’s house were built by the council in 1956. The origin of these images is uncertain but any information on the photographer would be very welcome.

Very unusually the houses are of a mixed design along the row with one and half storey and single storey time about in this image. The houses look to be constructed with harled blocks or bricks and feature twelve paned sash windows. The actual building work appear to be largely completed but ground works, paths, drains and garden areas all seem to be work in progress.

Can anyone provide house numbers or names for those featured in this image? Any names of forestry residents?
