“The photo is signed on the back Ed Leavitt taken at Lumber Camp 1918. That was at Culeave.
The letter was sent to Maggie Finlayson of Cawdearg after the Leavett's visited in 1980. The taxi driver referred to was Jimmy Fraser, Bonar Bridge.”

Part of the letter written by Ed Leavett is shown in the attached PDF below reads:
“Oct 1980.
My Dear Friend,
It was such a pleasure to find someone who remember the boys who were in Scotland in 1917 that you really made our visit and our taxi driver was so good to us.
You made our visit and we were so pleased that we could make new friends like you and Sandy’s nephew and wife.
This little gift is a token of our friendship and love. If you ever want to write to us we would be very pleased.
With Love and Friendship
Edgar and Bea Leavitt”

Hello,
My grandfather Lovell I. Churchill was in Ardgay, Scotland during WW1. He was chopper. My family have several pictures from his time there that he sent home. We also have his letters from that time as well. Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in. He played the piano and he liked to go into town to play for the people for entertainment.

This information would be of great value to Forestry Memories and history researchers and add much to the story of this great venture by the ten New England sawmill teams who travelled over in 1918 with all their equipment to the Ardgay area. I have sent a separate email directly to you. Kind regards. Comment left on 07 October 2025 at 08:05 by Norman Davidson
