Achnamara Forestry Village – Forestry Workers’ children

Date Added: 18 August 2020 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1961 Picture No: 4826

Image is courtesy of Fiona Green, North Connel.

A great image of some of the village children performing stunts for the camera and posterity! The local primary school is just appearing in view in the middle distance.

The children from the left are:

Top row – Terry Morrison and Tony Green

Middle row – William Horrocks (Now named See Comments), Billy Green, Alastair Graham.

Bottom Row – Unnamed, Tommy Angus, Davy Green and Alan Morrison.

Boy standing aside is unnamed but could be John Barr Horrocks , son of Bob Horrocks who lived in No 13 Achnamara

Any more names and comments very welcome.

The PDF shows three boys fishing from the jetty - the boy on the right may be John Cavanagh and the second image is of Tommy Angus and Alan Morrison standing behind the village shop.

Middle row far left is William Horrocks.
Bob’s son. Standing far right is indeed his brother John.

I worked with a Terry and Alan Morrison, and their Dad at Benmore Forest. Would this be the same ones as the photo? There was also a Bob Horrocks at Corlarach Forest but I didn't know him so well as I was at Benmore. Comment left on 02 November 2020 at 15:44 by Andy MacNicol
Yes Andy, I believe the Morrison family moved from Achnamara to the Dunoon area in the late 1960's and Alan, Terry and their dad John probably worked in Benmore Forest. Comment left on 04 November 2020 at 18:47 by Fiona Green
