Achnamara forestry village on a calm morning

Achnamara forestry village on a calm morning

Date Added: 17 August 2020 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1965 Picture No: 4819

The image is courtesy of Fiona Green, North Connel from an old postcard. The actual date is uncertain but estimated as around mid sixties. Perhaps someone can advise year from the vehicle types and models shown?

Broadleaved trees are bare and there may be a frost or heavy dew on the ground in this early morning very still image of the village with an arm of Loch Sween in the background.

I think the 'white' car furthest from the camera is a Renault 'Dauphine', produced between 1956 - 1966. The van in the middle appears to have the curved waist body profile of a Ford Thames E83W, 10cwt delivery van. Built between 1938 -1957 at the Dagenham factory in Essex. The pick-up nearest the camera could also be a Ford Thames E83W, 10cwt model; it doesn't "look right" to be a Morris as the front mudguards are rounded rather than the oval rear shape of the Morris', both the Minor 1000 and the Oxford were available as pick-ups. Pleased to read what other viewers may think. Comment left on 17 August 2020 at 22:04 by Bill Rayner
