Buried pine at Culbin Forest excavated
The photograph is courtesy of Duncan Menzies of Banchory shows a large pine tree which over the years after planting was partially inundated with blown drifting sand. The pressure on the lower part of the trunk in the deeper sand has obviously restricted diameter growth significantly to that compared with part of trunk just above the sand level.
Thought to be John Walmsley and Willie Forsyth at the excavated base of the tree.
