Sitka spruce in Queen Charlotte Islands (Now named Haida Gwaii)

Debated as to whether this image and its followers should go onto this site. Given that we have planted multi millions of Sitka spruce trees from seed that was initially collected from these Islands (the identity abbreviated to QCI), it probably deserves its place here.
It is a superb looking tree for an area so far north and on islands very exposed to oceanic weather systems. I guess the tree fellers know their trade but it appears as though the tree has been cut almost all the way through and must be liable to go over in any breeze. The hand saw looks as though it is hardly long enough to go through the full width of the tree and must have been only able to move a few inches to and fro at the widest point.
