A new development to cultivate hill ground instead of using a plough to allay the concerns of the tree root restrictions caused by deep furrows. Not seen here but the frame also usually had a fixture of two tine bars going down to depths of half a metre and more.
In reality this worked best on the more grassy slopes rather than on flat ground with peat.The toothed discs at an angle to the direction of travel turned solely by the ploughing action through the ground.
