Possibly a publicity image for the newly created 101 range of Muir-Hill tractors. There is a wheel guarded machine and an agricultural type machine, both with direct drive powerful looking Boughton winches. Note the spade anchoring system.

One can visualise the tractor use for pulling out the stems of large trees and other such activities. The winch must have however reduced its towing capacity. This machine was used extensively by the Forestry Commission civil engineers to pull vibrating rollers.

Any other thoughts and comments welcome.

Back in the 1970's on Panmure Estate a two speed Boughton winch fitted on a Fordson major was used for all the heavy pulling jobs around the estate. The hardest part was sourcing wire rope capable of standing the tremendous pulling power of this winch. Comment left on 28 June 2020 at 11:15 by leslie phillip
Looks like the 2 Muir Hills were based on Ford tractor skid units. Very popular along with Ford County tractors. Comment left on 16 January 2023 at 18:51 by Chris monk
