Wolf Danarm 110 volt Chainsaw with 12 inch bar
Photograph is courtesy of Alasdair Cameron, Black Isle, who comments:
“The saw was purchased around 1975 from a Yorkshire Government Surplus dealer that went round the auction marts. The plan was to cut firewood quietly in a village. A 110 volt transformer was borrowed, chain sharpened, and with a squirt of oil an attempt was made to cut the first log. It was very slow and chattered and the opinion was that it was faulty but on investigation it was just that there was a large speed reduction in the gearbox and it was back to the two stroke again.
The saws were made mid 60's for the GPO ( General Post Office ) for their linesmen working with telephone poles and to run with a generator. It looks like Wolf supplied the motor (which looks very like their portable circular saw) and Danarm the saw parts. Although the casing is aluminium it is a heavy saw probably due to steel gears in the big gearbox. No instruction to oil the chain. Wolf was a British Company that made good quality portable power tools in their day.”
