Extended track BTD8 Series 2 tractor in cross draining operation
Photograph is courtesy of Jim Christie, Crook of Devon, a former senior mechanical engineer in Forestry Commission.
No information on or date on image but this is a lead tractor in a pair of machines pulling a large plough cross draining an area already ploughed. Note the cross drains in the ploughing on the hill above the machines. This machine is well equipped with hydraulic winches back and front.
This machine may have been converted to a long track version by Bowens in Scotland as it differs from the extended track models build by the Forestry Commission Central Engineering workshops at Airdrie – the CEW 70s. The FC modified machines used Boughton components and had a smaller drive sprocket which sloped the rear of the track downwards. Hopefully that is correct!
Can anyone provide more detail and time period.
