Cairnbaan Camp area transformed in to housing site
The image shows the camp within the last few years overlain with a rough (very) outline in pale yellow of the approximate positions some of the main huts erected in 1937 and in the second World War. The red dotted line is the approximate position of the original roads that were constructed at that time. Most of the camp area was sold and the council houses built during the early 1970s.
The Forestry Commission vehicle and machine repair work shop is still in the exact same place as it was in 1950 but somewhat modified! The former new Knapdale Forest Office is the building seen on the far right with a few vehicles outside.
