Rannoch Forest – Planting team

The images were courtesy of the late Sandy Sandilands, Banchory, who spent a short period of his early career at Rannoch.

Sandy commented – “On a lovely sunny spring morning and it is ‘piece time’ for the planting squad at the west end of Loch Rannoch. Chief Forester Pat Garrow has his back to the squad. There was another squad that operated from Kinloch Rannoch.”

Duncan Menzies believes this is the squad from the hostel at bridge of Gaur and that the person on the extreme left is possibly Gordon Rae.He also points out that there are no planting bags or spades in the frame and wondered if the men were spreading fertiliser by hand.

Can any of the eleven men shown here in addition to Pat Garrow be named?
