John Keenleyside - Dublin Bothy Essay
A familiar face to many in the FCS, John Keenleyside recently retired after a life working amongst the trees. Here he relates a story about his stay at Dublin Bothy in Ross-shire in the 1950s, first published in The Slasher in 2007.

John's tales of bothy life in Dublin are 100% accurate, that I can vouch for as my father was the Alex MacLeman the Head Forester at Ardross that John mentions. I remember the day John arrived as we lived next door to Geoff Bartlett at Mid-Ardross or The Offices as it was better known as. I can remember being in the bothy countless times and played darts there especially when the road squad was in town ! They were a great bunch of characters and enjoyed life to the full. The road roller driver John refers to I think was Ernie Findlay. Good to see John looking so well. Regards - Don MacLeman

ARCH (archhighland.org.uk) are doing a Memories Project at Ardross and John's Essay has stirred local memories of John, Wattie, and the early history of the Bothy. A feature based on John's Essay in the Alness & District Times has brought out more information on the people and forestry history of Ardross.
