New School – Achnamara Village
The photograph courtesy of Fiona Green, North Connel, and shows the new Achnamara village school in the back ground.
Fiona comments: “There was only one classroom and another room which doubled as a dining room/gym room and any other purpose it was required for. As you look at the building the classroom is on the right end of the building and the dining room on the left. The kitchen was also at the left end.
The Swedish houses in the picture are 21/22 next to the shop out of the photograph view. Numbers 21 & 22 actually burned down in the early 1970's with the fire starting in number 21. A single house was built on this site perhaps fifteen years later. My mother was still living in the village at the time of the fire but Billy and I had left by then.”
