Royal Agricultural Society of England – Burke Trophy and Medal
The images of the medal were kindly provided by Jo McAuley , Forestry Commission, Edinburgh who has the medals stored in her department office. She has information which reads:
“The Duke of Gloucester presented the medal to Mr George Holmes, Commissioner for Harvesting and Marketing, with the Burke Trophy for the Commission’s Hydrostatic Tractor at the Royal Show, Kenilworth, on 2nd July 1974.”
It would appear that the Forestry Commission Hydrostatic tractor was demonstrating at the Kenilworth Show and more than attracted the attentions of the judges.
There are several images of the Hydrostatic Skidder on the website and Picture No 4553 contains images and details of Booklet No 59 written about the development of the machine from 1969 -1974.
