Photograph is courtesy of Alasdair Cameron, Ross-shire who comments:

“The question you posed on Photo 45409 about the pole..........It is called a Pike Pole and is still a tool in use in North America (where a Pike Pole also refers to the fishing rod for pike fishing). It was best used by a heavier member of the team particularly for the longer handled versions.

I have attached a photo of three heads:

1st is a standard Boat Hook

2nd was found in the sawdust at a CFC camp and is a standard Pike Pole head

3rd also from a CFC camp in Kiltarlity. This type was also used with a short handle for moving logs on the saw bench.”
