Achnamara Village Children

Date Added: 23 September 2019 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1960 Picture No: 4525

The images are courtesy of Fiona Green who was a forestry village child in the 1950s and 1960s. The host of comments on Picture No 8 on this website (Forestry Memories) gives an indication of how the children of the newly created forestry village enjoyed their life in the area, enjoyed the freedom to wander, play and explore, the older children looking out for the younger ones and making new lifelong friends. From many backgrounds and locations their life would not have had many easy and bountiful luxuries in comparison with today but again most people had very similar lives at that time and perhaps lived in a closer and interactive community harmony.

The photograph is of Susan Ferguson (daughter of Duncan Ferguson) playing in the burn at the old ‘clapper brig’ near the village. In the attached PDF she is featured again this time in Easter Bonnet mode along with Kenneth Fryer (son of Ken Fryer, forester) with his suitably decorated tricycle. The last photograph in the PDF is of a more recent image of the Clapper Bridge wearing very well over its many years.
