The photograph is courtesy of Iain Gale, mobile plant manager with James Jones at Lockerbie, who started his forestry career as a Forest Craftsman chainsaw operator in 1981 at Forestry Commission Dalbeattie Forest and onwards to Harvesting Foreman at Kielder FD.

Iain comments:

”This machine worked as part of a team of 2 harvesters and 2 forwarders the other harvester being a JCB 814 with possibly a Lako head. The extraction machines were a Hemek Forwarder which had a long bunk for extracting 12m logpoles without the need for towing a bogey, and a Valmet 830 for the shortwood. If I recall correctly the operators were Jim Hardie, Robin Banks, Simon Banks and Austin Tweddle”.
