Inverinate Forest pre-acquisition survey – Area 2
One of a series of maps and drawings found in old ex military map cases stored in the loft of the Fort August Forest office and recovered by Grant Macintosh.
This second map has a host of notes and colour washes to denote the outcome of an extensive walk over vegetation and plantable survey of an area of land offered for sale to the Forestry Commission. The notes include comments on areas of poor and rocky unplantable ground as well as a potential planting limit and the identification of a future access route. See previous record for Area 1.
The detail gives a brief insight into the aims and ambitions of the early foresters and the initial basis for the establishment of Inverinate Forest where planting was begun in 1927.
