The PDF lists the names and designations is of the staff who occupied the Forest Research section of the Forestry Commission at this time. Many of the District Officer and Forester staff only worked for a ‘tour of duty’ of around 3-5 years before heading back to more traditional forest roles but for a number it was their lifetime’s work.
Some of the foresters were based in locations around the country and generally were involved in many types of experimental work a great deal of which was detailed periodic recording of data over very long periods. Results and assessments of all the experiments were published in due course.
As can be seen from the number of staff involved Forest Research was a major element in the output of the Forestry Commission at this time and covered not only silvicultural work but genetics, soils, entomology, pathology and various other forestry related topics. The Forest Research bases in Scotland were many and stretched from Fleet in the south west to Lairg in the north.
