The page of staff names and designations is of the staff who occupied the Planning and Economic section at this time. Most of the District Officer and Forester staff only worked for a ‘tour of duty’ of around 3-5 years before heading back to more traditional forest roles. Many of the foresters were based in teams around the country and were responsible for carrying out the accurate resurvey of the acquired land and the planted forests. The teams evaluated the crop species, the yield classes and all the land uses and created a new detailed forest map from the survey detail. They also produced a new data set of the whole of the growing stock for the forest - originally on thousands of cards and paper forms which eventually gave way to fanfold printed tombs and now all held internally on a computer memory. The teams worked from original acquisition and sale maps, aerial photographs and also the slow process of field work with tape and compass. A team could spend many months in a forest and often over the year.
There may also have been teams looking at sample plot data and working on early measurement and production forecast tables as well as improved stand volume calculations. Can anyone confirm?
