Thatched Sand Dunes Culbin Forest
This image was found by Avril MacLennan in the Forestry Commission Office at Golspie (North Highland Forest District) as part of a presentation. No details however were available.
A broad landscape view of a very large sand dune thought to be in Culbin Forest very comprehensively thatched with vegetation, tree branches and small stems. The thatching had to be very well done as small ‘blowouts’ could quickly occur in any strong windy conditions and lead to large areas uncovered and much sand beginning to move again.
