Kilmun Arboretum — Short Guide

The little guide to the Kilmun Arboretum outlines its early history pre tree planting and then to the first plots established in January 1930. The arboretum was planted with a wide collection of tree species from all over the world, some of which have not survived but have since been replaced by other rare species. There is a vast choice of plots and groups assembled roughly into genus blacks and would take a considerable amount of time to fully explore. Included are many varieties of pines, spruces, larches, cypresses, firs, wellingtonia, southern beeches, hemlocks, eucalyptus, cherries, oaks, alders, maples and more exotic species. The text was written by J E Kirby and B J Lambsdown then Forestry Commission Forest Research staff. Not sure if J E Kirby is Jim Kirby who was based a Lairg for some time and also at Sunart (Glenhurich Forest).
