Birch logs at Inverness Harbour

Alasdair comments:
‘At one time Brian Fletcher and many lorry drivers like him were kept busy hauling softwood timber into Inverness harbour for loading onto vessels. This was a time of exporting wood for pulping in Scandinavia on two vessels on a regular basis.
We now see birch logs from Latvia piled high at Inverness on their way to the OSB factory a Dalcross that has recently doubled in capacity with a new line added. The birch is to be used for facing a new board product. Such is the increased demand for softwood in the north for processing that fencing contractors are having to source materials from well outside the area.’
