Joint Industrial Trades Council in Cowal

The PDF contains the itinerary, area descriptions and history, forest details and forest programmes for a visit to the Forestry Commission areas in Cowal by the Joint Industrial Trades Council in May 1964. The two day visit to some of the 13 forests in the Cowal Peninsula begins with a crossing of the Clyde to Dunoon and then by bus up to Benmore Forest.
The forestry statistics of the Cowal area include the total FC planting as at 34,883 acres with 13,900 yet to be done. More details are available on Forest Worker Holdings and Agricultural leases. The 13 Forests listed are Ardgartan, Benmore, Corlarach, Glenbranter, Glendaruel, Glenfinart, Loch Eck, Strathlachlan and Tighnabruaich with three small forests just out with the area named as Garelochhead, Whitelee and Leapmoor plus the forest of Glenrickard on the Island of Arran.
The details of the forests visited (Benmore, Glenfinart, Tighnabruaich, Strathlachlan, Glenbranter, Loch Eck and Ardgartan) are described under the following headings:
