Visit Notes to Benmore Forest 1952
The document is courtesy of Glenbranter Forest office staff with particular thanks to Ian Adams who has stored these old files for many years.
The short four page set of notes was prepared for a visitation by The Town and Country Planning Association to Benmore Forest on Saturday 20th September 1952.
Much of the text focuses on the history, geology and geography of Benmore Forest and House but the final page does give some detail of forest, the foresters and workers.
At this time the plantations totalled 3616 acres with the forest nursery (at Uig) totalling 18 acres, Forest Worker Holdings 47 acres, Agriculture and hill ground grazing at 5998 acres. However the areas quoted in the subsequent paragraph appear quite different in plantation totals.
The forester is named as Mr J (John) Jackson, under forester as Mr N Robertson and the two foremen as Mr A Hopkins and Mr C J MacPhee.
Any further details would be very welcome.
