Timber stack at Elibank Forest

A sizable double row pile of timber at Elibank Forest extracted and stacked by Andrew Thomson who was the forwarder operator at the time. The mix of end diameters is unusual in the timber world of today as it looks from the mix of very small sizes as though the whole lot is destined to be delivered as pulpwood.
The pulpwood could have been destined for Shotton in North Wales. The presence of the modern sawmills at Lockerbie as currently would have certainly meant two product piles with the lager diameter logs sorted out into higher priced pallet wood products.
On the other hand this scene has been repeated currently where the market has been influenced by strong demand for wood fuel chips and pellets. A very debatable end for larger green log material!
