Elibank Forest - history on the move
The photographs are courtesy of Stuart Mitchell, Peebles area, who formerly worked at Glentress Forest.
This and the views in the attached PDF are off the former forest office in Elibank Forest being transported to one of the forest locations in the Forth area. Going by the long shadows a very early morning start as the wide load takes up most of the road width. Year is uncertain but around mid 1980s. See the PDF for views going through towns and lanes. The office was closed following amalgamation with Glentress Forest and the building was subsequently moved to the enlarged Clydesdale Forest. Operation was directed by Henry Collin, Forestry Commission Clerk of Works.
Note that the apex of the roof ridge has been cut off or removed presumably to clear low bridges and wires crossing roads.
Can any foresters and clerical staff who worked in this office be named?
Mr M F Caruthers in 1967 was Head Forester at Elibank.
