Skidder at work Cardrona Forest
The photographs are courtesy of Stuart Mitchell, Peebles area, who formerly worked at Glentress Forest.
This could possibly be an early James Jones manufactured Highland Skidder working at the Yellow Mire in Cardrona Forest near Glentress but equally a model manufactured at FC Chapelhall Workshops. The image is not that clear but a person is just visible down behind the logging or skid plate loosening off the winch ropes. It is difficult to see if individual strops were being used here for some of the logs but could be the impression of short chains.
The two winches are most likely Igland make each with line pulls of at least 4000 kg. Versions were available with 5000 and 8000 kg line pulls. The tractor registration is VHM412M dating from 1973/74.
