Bogged in Saltoun Forest
The photographs are courtesy of Stuart Mitchell, Peebles area, who formerly worked at Glentress Forest.
Here Stuart is working to debog his James Jones manufactured Highlander forwarder in heavy conditions in Saltoun Forest south east of Edinburgh.
Stuart recalls that the site was being cleared of birch and rhododendrons to replant with conifers. The soft wet conditions are not ideal for this type of machine and Stuart is using the hydraulic power of the blade to lift the front wheels off the ground to insert pieces of birch into the deep wheel ruts. The registration OYK56R place this machine as new in 1976/77 but a bit older in the photograph as the tyres are worn down quite a bit. The FC number of the new looking trailer (in PDF) is 75967.
See attached PDF for another view of the site and machine.
