Forwarder at Ae Forest

Forwarder at Ae Forest

Date Added: 15 August 2018 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1978 Picture No: 4166

The photographs are courtesy of Stuart Mitchell, Peebles area, who formerly worked at Glentress Forest.

The year the photograph was taken is uncertain but around the late 1970s is a possibility. The machine combination is very distant and details not clear but looks like a Ford County model with a Wartsila hydraulic crane attachment. Unsure of the trailer make.

Does anyone know who the driver could have been?

These units may have been fabricated at the Forestry Commission Chapelhall Workshops in Airdrie. Can anyone confirm?

This appears to be a Chieftain Forwarder which was built by Chieftain Forge in Bathgate. The machines were delivered through Chapelhall Workshop where loader stability tests were carried out.
