Soaking young trees at Cloich Forest
The photographs are courtesy of Stuart Mitchell, Peebles area, who formerly worked at Glentress Forest.
Newly arrived transplants from the forest nursery are being soaked with water via a fire pump by Eck Boulton. The plants have been sheughed in at the roadside and in the very dry weather liable to dry out and die.
The attached PDF gives and overview of Cloich Forest located a little north west of Peebles. The trailer seen in the image contains two knapsack sprayers probably also used to soak the young trees or may have been in the trailer which had been set aside with pump and equipment as an emergency response to a possible fire and then 'borrowed' to carry out this work.
