Forestry Memories

Part Millbuie Forest, Black Isle

Part Millbuie Forest, Black Isle

Date Added: 23 May 2018 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1966 Picture No: 4100

Maps are courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and show the forest area originally part of Millbuie Forest and then Culloden Forest and then all amalgamated into Culloden Forest District.

New maps produced following a full survey of the forest by a specialist forester team but unfortunately the year is not recorded on the documents but estimated here as 1966

The renumbered compartments run from 494 to 619 with some details of the tree species and land use annotated directly on the map. A full compartment schedule is attached which gives more detail on each sub-compartment.

Note forestry houses in Compartment 531 but unfortunately details on map not very clear. Can anyone name these houses? Compartment 495 is partially annotated as nursery – Millbuie Nursery?

The map cover of a second copy map was annotated with the local forestry names of Black Stand, Grey Cairn, Eathie and Flowerburn.

Any stories and details of those who worked here would be very welcome.
