Glentress Forest workers circa 1923

Date Added: 08 March 2018 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1923 Picture No: 3968

The image is courtesy of Ruth Robertson, Peebles.

Little is known about this image or the names of the people but is assumed to be the forest workers at Glentress Forest in the early 1920s when George Robertson started work with the Forestry Commission. George worked at Glentress Forest for about 10 years until the mid 1930s before starting working on his own, sawmilling posts and rails and making gates for the farming community.

The photograph quality is not good and the strong shadows change outlines a little but going by a demob photograph of George Robertson with beret, the man No 8 has some of his features. No 9 has some of the features of Kit Glendinning as shown in the previous image.

Do you recognise any of the men?

Any names of fathers, uncles or grandparents who worked in Glentress Forest in its early days would be very welcome.
