‘Covering drill sown seed with Speymoth grit. The ‘white ‘patches are areas covered with grit which has since dried out. Sub plots and plots are marked out with pegs. Different sized plots are for different sowing densities’
This view and the other view in the PDF shows seed sowing in the experimental area of Newton Forest Nursery. It seems that seed from two tree species was sown Japanese larch and Scots pine in this variety of root undercutting depths experiment. An example of the time consuming and detailed work that went into much of the experimental trials.
See PDF for another view of the operation and nursery area. Can any of the workers be named?
