Kershope Winch used with sledges

Taken two years after the initial photographs of the Kershope Winch this photograph demonstrates the use of special sledges attached to the haul in rope to transport the pulp.
The text reads: ‘Double drum winch used to haul in long range (200-300 yd) skidding of fully converted Bowater pulpwood loaded on special sledges. Sledges attached to wire by 9 inch release grips to haul in line.’
Clever idea to deal with problem of hauling very short wood product and also keeping it relatively clean. Economics of in wood conversion down to this small size or hauling out longer length logs and converting at road side must have been debatable.
