Teindland Forest heathland nursery

The text reads as:
‘A general view of an area of woodland being prepared for nursery purposes. The process is as follows:- The established plantation is brashed and all the dead branches and other litter are gathered into heaps which operation helps to clear the ground. The trees are then pulled out using a tractor and the soil is knocked off the roots. The ground is cleared and levelled and forked to get the main mass of roots out. A harrowing (4’’) then gets rid of the smaller material which was mixed. Woodland soil is introduced to level up the ground (this method is considered by Forester Reid to be the best method as he thinks it avoids subsoil effects in the prepared beds).’
