Skye Forest area — Logan sock

Donald writes:
‘A step cutting device developed by Mike Lofthouse, Work Study Officer, Inverness from the original Kenny Logan device for use in North Scotland.’
Donald Thompson worked on the development of ploughs for a number of years and here he is acknowledging the work of Kenny Logan, Workshop Manager Longman Mechanical Engineering Workshop, Inverness and that of Mike Lofthouse who also did some work on plough design and development.
The sock device is properly described in Record No 2412 from other photographs which had no details on them. The PDF contains another two views of the plough and Cuthbertson single furrow head with stepping sock attached. The last image is one showing the stepping sock not welded to the mould board and the toe of the plough with plough sock attach bent down by contact with rocks and boulders. Welding the stepping sock on proved more reliable.
