The text reads as:
‘sample plot S 48 – Norway spruce, Area 312, Quality Class 1, Thinning Grade ‘D’’

Unfortunately no planting date or ages given. Private estates had the advantage of having woods and forests planted at much earlier dates than the Forestry Commission providing of course they had not been felled for the WWI war effort. These provided valuable information on potential harvestable crop volumes and timber size profiles.
