Road Squad Tippers in Quarry near Rothes

Collection of Forestry Commission Tippers in gravel quarry above Rothes, Speyside. Lined up about 1964 against their machines are the lorry drivers L-R: Ernie Wilson (Torphins), Geordie Beaton (Kintore), Bill Thomson (Torphins), Douglas Morrison (Corrennie), Sandy MacCombie (Torphins) and George Reid (Banchory). The first three lorries are petrol fuelled Bedford Tippers and the last two diesel powered Thames Traders all with a carrying capacity of about 6-8 Tons. It looks like a small Ford van at the right with another unidentified larger van only partially seen.
One number plate appears to read TLH359 which is I assume a London area number where all FC vehicles were registered by HQ then located in Savill Row, London. The old style FC emblem of a round shield with diagonal bars topped by a crown can be seen over Sandy MacCombie’s shoulder.
