Just one of the hundreds of sample plots set up in plantations of all species in which precise measurements were taken of the trees periodically through their life time. The aim was to produce data and tables to enable foresters to more accurately estimate volumes of the timber in their forests, the size categories of the timber and also to forecast how these volumes would change as the trees grew older and when thinned or not thinned.
