At this point research foresters were looking at possible improvements in Norway spruce tree qualities and noted these three trees adjacent to the Research branch Office at Fort Augustus. The tree on the right displays taller growth but crucially has lighter more regular branching that appears to naturally grow a bit closer to right angles to the main trunk.
