Minard Forest fertilising experiments

The image shows Sitka spruce planted 1946 which was, until fertiliser was applied, growing fairly slowly but the growth accelerated markedly as can be seen in the leader growth when it was fertilised with phosphate in 1963.

Can anyone name the forester?
