Photograph is courtesy and copyright of Forestry Commission, Forest Research, Roslin, and provided with help from Glen Brearley. FR Photo number No C4216 of experiment number Ae 41 P65 - Experiment 2 taken by B J Lambsdown.

Text on photograph is as follows ‘General view showing netted block’ which does not provide much information.

Close examination shows a light weight deer fence on the edge of the felled area which must be of fine polypropylene or nylon as only the top edge shows up in the image. There is an obvious netted box within the area and the assumption could be that part of the experiment is within this box. Other Sitka spruce is growing next to the camera and may be also part of the experiment area (Could be natural regeneration from the previous crop?)

The attached PDF shows another wired box with ‘netted seedlings rising 3 years’ and is annotated as Ae 38 P64 Expt 5 Block VRO.

The second image in the PDF is Ae38 P64 Experiment 4 Block III RO ‘Unprotected rising 3 years’.

Uncertain whether the unprotected indicates no net box cover or out with protective deer fence?
