Banff Field Club Records — Notable trees

David Paterson, Edinburgh, has provided some images from written proceedings from a Banff Field Club volume which had been passed to him by a relative. The first set of images focuses on a paper by Mr Lawrence Watt of Clydebank being read to the assembly. He obviously knew the locality at Duff House well and he along with a Mr Yeats and Mr Craig measured and recorded the dimensions of quite a number of individual trees in the Duff House Policies and surrounds in July 1917. The PDF contains the written proceedings and the tree records. The latter part contains a few additional records of trees at Duff House, the Erskine Policies and Balvenie House, but also a list of measurements taken at Duff House Estate in July 1918 when it seems Lawrence Watt was accompanied by Dr Mahood, Major Grant, Mr W Craib and Mr Yeats.

The botanical names and common tree names will cause a bit of head scratching but hopefully can be related to present day naming conventions.

The dimensions and species are of interest. However does anyone know if any of the trees recorded survive as of this year 2018 – one hundred years following the recorded measuring?
